TITLE  |  Sewist and Textile Cutter

REPORTS TO  |  Head Sewist, Lead Designer & Founder/President

COMPENSATION  | $15/hour

COMMITMENT  |  Start as part-time contractor with 15-20 hours/week; Quality and consistency of work is assessed immediately; If standards are met, can transition into employee and/or full time (32+ hours) based on performance.

Our Sewists are a key to our manufacturing operations. We are looking for people with a passion for sewing, creating, re-imagining what already exists and those wanting to be part of a dynamic and diverse team of multi-talented people. These individuals will work in a start-up business environment where they will help to lay a foundation for how Public Thread continues to break the boundaries of textile design and production.

SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE

  • Industrial sewing and production experience; able and willing to participate in production cutting and sewing

  • Willingness to assist in the materials intake, cleaning and prep process

  • Ability to work with and use non-traditional textiles (like signs, banners or billboard vinyl, along with traditional textiles) in order to create high quality products

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities; assists team with finding solutions to design and manufacturing roadblocks

  • Integrity and values with alignment to social justice, equity and sustainability.

  • Organized and self-driven with reliable follow-through

  • Sewing test and skill assessment required
